A journey to the east |grounding|

Journeyed out to the eastern desert of Jordan last Friday.

As you go east of Amman, the land becomes barren. The soil transitions from brown and green to yellow and white. The road then takes you south, and the off white becomes covered with black rocks.

We went to a familiar place, a place where I visited about a year ago with some friends. Two hours into the drive, there are these circular stones that are all somehow collected in one place on the side of the road. We found it to be a good place to chill for a bit, take some photos, and test out our new anamorphic lens.

These rocks are a geological phenomenon that happen to the sedimentary rocks that are in this region.

With a great location, a farwa, and some time, we were able to take some portraits.

Of course, a lot of experimentation goes into this process to be able to get a couple good photos. Some photos can be good but don’t give you that extra edge of something different. I’ve put them in black in white to simplify how they look.

After the portraits, I moved on to take photographs of the rocks. There is a journey and a trance that goes into a photographing session. There is always a warm up, the real harmony of you and the elements, and then the come down where you feel you got what you needed. Of course, this doesn’t always happen. When it does, it feels like you’ve grown and went on a creative trip. I felt this more with the portraits than I did with the rocks.
